Update from Florida

Last week we were able to practice at Ocala on Thursday.  It was a good opportunity to get back in the race car without the pressure of racing against other cars.  Honestly, I was a bit nervous considering my crash and the time out of the car.  The good news is that Kevin and the team had the car very easy and comfortable to drive.  At the race on Friday, we timed poorly, made some changes and really got going good in the heat race. Unfortunately, our time trial gave us a 24th place starting spot.  In the feature we were going really good with a 13th place finish, which awarded us a hard charger award for passing the most cars.

Then the rain came.  The rest of the week and throughout the weekend it rained on and off till Tuesday.  We were all going a bit crazy being cooped up in a motel room with no racing to do.  However, with no practice we raced Wednesday at Volusia on one of the fastest tracks I have ever raced on.  Again we didn’t time trial very well, but in the heat race I had on of the fastest cars I ever drove.  We just missed the 8 lap track record due to our speed.  After qualifying, we started 21st in the feature.  The track was extremely fast and narrow with little passing.  We were a little tight for the heavy track and after getting behind and running out of tear offs I was unable to continue.  We will have a lot of work to do getting the car clean, it must have 40 pounds of clay on it.  Anyway its off to Volusia for night 2.  I try to update tomorrow.  Later Doug
